The story of Pure Aroma is not one that began in a laboratory or a business school, but at the bedside. Its founder, Maggy Chang, spent years as a critical care nurse standing at the intersection of modern medicine and human vulnerability. In the quiet intensity of critical care and palliative units, she observed a crucial gap: while she witnessed technology's incredible power to heal the body, she also saw the deeper, unaddressed wounds of the spirit—the anxiety, fear, and profound weariness that no medicine could fully touch.
Gift from God
It was during the MCO pandemic, a period of collective uncertainty, that Maggy received two life-changing gifts. The first was the Word of God, which filled her spirit with a peace that surpassed all understanding. The second was a humble vial of essential oil, which she began to use to bring comfort to her patients in palliative care.
She saw it with her own eyes: a drop of lavender could ease a restless mind into peaceful sleep. The warm, sacred scent of frankincense could bring solace to a soul in turmoil. A bright burst of wild orange could cut through the fog of depression, if only for a precious moment. In these simple, natural gifts from the earth, she recognized God’s provision for our healing—a way to care for the emotional and spiritual aches that lie beneath physical pain.
Calling
Her patients felt it, too. They didn’t just feel better; they felt seen and understood on a deeper level. They felt cared for in a holistic way—body, mind, and spirit. The demand for these "comforting oils" grew from a whisper to a chorus. What began as a nurse’s compassionate act soon became a calling.
Compassion
Driven by these early results, Maggy’s nurse’s instinct for evidence-based care led her to delve deeper. She embarked on a rigorous journey of professional study, formally qualifying in aromatherapy, essential oil formulation, and emotional therapy. She learned the intricate chemistry behind the oils and the profound science of how scent interacts with the limbic system—the emotional core of the brain.
